A journey into self-shaping materials innovation to revolutionize e-commerce.

Ministero
Self Modeling Material is the patent for the feasibility study of a material capable of self-shaping. How? It is a materialMicrofluidic structured metamaterials, suitable for self-shaping.

To replicate the shape, texture, and size of an accessory or garment, aiming to enhance the online shopping experience.

Why and how

E-commerce is growing exponentially, but some products, such as clothing and footwear, remain tied to the physical experience: touching, trying on, feeling.

This patent changes the game. Imagine a wearable device that precisely replicates the fit, materials, and real sensation of an item chosen online.

Thanks to programmable and morphing materials, the device automatically adapts to the shape and size of the selected product, delivering a unique sensory experience. Augmented reality completes the experience by virtually displaying the visual details of the item.

Enterprises (%) that have received online orders (at least 1): all enterprises, excluding the financial sector (at least 10 employees).

From the diagram, it can be observed that online sales growth follows an average increase of

150%

compared to the previous year's value.

The study initially focuses on the development of a pair of shoes. The footwear market is rapidly expanding, but online purchases remain limited by fit issues, with a high return rate due to sizing and comfort errors.

Graph

This project can revolutionize the industry by enabling the creation of self-shaping footwear that dynamically adapts to the foot's morphology.

Analisi Componenti

Analysis of the main components of the self-shaping device, from material technology to virtual simulation.

Goals

  • Develop a shoe that changes shape and size to match available online models.
  • Provide an internal tactile sensation similar to real shoes.
  • Display the exact model using Augmented Reality (AR) technology.

Technical Details

  • Metamaterials: Advanced materials that change shape and properties in response to external stimuli.
  • Augmented Reality (AR): Visualization of the worn model through smart glasses.

The footwear sector is just the beginning: metamaterials could revolutionize rapid prototyping, redefining design and production with adaptive and customizable solutions.
